Midwifery
Our experienced and compassionate midwife supports you through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood with a holistic, personalised approach. At Novea Health, we combine midwifery care with specialist obstetric expertise to provide the perfect balance of medical excellence and nurturing guidance.
Why Midwifery Matters
Bringing a midwife into your pregnancy and postnatal care brings many benefits:
- Continuity and consistency – your midwife will get to know you, your preferences and your story
- Longer appointment times – enough space to ask questions, voice concerns and receive education
- Emotional and practical support – beyond medical checks, we care for your mental health, wellbeing and confidence
- Collaborative care – we work closely with obstetricians, paediatricians, lactation consultants and allied health to ensure your care is seamless
What to Expect: Antenatal Midwifery Visits
We usually schedule 2–3 midwifery visits during your pregnancy alongside your obstetric appointments. Each session lasts 30–45 minutes and may include:
- Nutrition, exercise and lifestyle guidance for pregnancy
- Preparation for labour, birth planning and pain relief options
- Emotional wellbeing, including listening to your concerns and supporting you through anxiety or stress
- Monitoring fetal movements and listening to your baby’s heartbeat
- Reviewing pathology and scan results and explaining what they mean
- Education around breastfeeding, expressing colostrum and perinatal care
- Helping you develop or refine your birth plan
- Discussion of any medical or pregnancy complications if relevant
You are welcome to book additional midwifery visits at any stage if you wish to check in more often or address specific questions or concerns.
How Midwifery Works with Obstetric Care
At Novea Health, midwives are an integral part of your care team.
- Your obstetrician remains your lead medical provider, overseeing medical and surgical aspects
- Your midwife complements that care through ongoing support, education and personalised attention
- Midwives collaborate closely with the obstetric team if any complications arise
- If your obstetrician is unavailable, your midwife remains a familiar point of contact and continuity
Working Together for You
Your midwife works closely with your obstetrician to provide seamless, safe and supportive care. Together, they ensure you receive the right balance of medical attention and personal connection throughout your journey.
